This is my first review ever, so I hope it does this game justice
Here is my review for:
Story:
An evil corporation (Shinra) is mining the planet of its life essence (Mako energy) and using it for electricity and condensing it into magic gems called Materia. An ex-Soldier (Soldier is the military unit of Shinra) member named Cloud joins forces with an anti-Shinra group called Avalanche and tries to destroy the Mako reactors in the Shinra facility. Along the way they meet the best Soldier ever, Sephiroth, who goes crazy and tries to take over the world and become God. Later Cloud becomes confused and can't remember his past, as Sephiroth uses his powers to mess with Cloud's mind. Along the course of the game you try to find out the truth behind Cloud's past, try to stop Sephiroth, and try to get the girl at the same time.
An excellent story with MANY plot twists!
out of 5 Materia
Gameplay:
The Gameplay is totally amazing and perfect. You put Materia into slots on your armor/weapons to give them special properties in battle. The battles are new and different with Active Time Battles and Limit Breaks, the latter of which are truly sights to behold (**cough cough Omnislash cough**)
out of 5 Materia
Graphics:
Even though the graphics are too great for today's standards, I'm gonna rate it as if it were 1997. ABSOLUTELY JAW-DROPPING!!!
ok...so the sprites have hammers for hands and can't convey that much emotion...but who cares?! The backgrounds are stunning and the battle sprites are awesome.
The summons still have my head spinning! Knights of Round and Bahamut ZERO are THE coolest summons I have ever seen in ANY video game!
and don't even get me started on the FMVs! even though they're not as good as FFVIII's FMVs, they still are pretty neat, especially the ending FMV.
out of 5 Materia
Music:
No comment, this catergory speaks for itself..
Though I was Disappointed that there was no singing in the PC version of the Final battle of the game, but I know there was in the PSX version, so I'll give it credit
out of 5 Materia
Replay Value/Extras
Also speaks for itself. If you play the game over again, you get a LOT more out of the story. Besides, it's an RPG, almost all RPGs have good replay value.
And I'd just play it again just to see the FMVs!!
as for extras, there is no number of Materia I can rate this to give it credit! Chocobo racing, raising Chocobos, 2 hidden characters, Multiple side quests, a whole city in the sky filled with minigames and rewards and an endless amount of hidden items! This is where the replay value comes in!
out of 5!
Overall, this was a great game that is a MUST buy for ANY gamer, even if you don't like RPGs. I can't decide if it's more of a game, or more like watching a movie or reading a good book, a DEFINITE MUST for everyone!!
Overall: out of 5!
OK so that was my review, i hope you found it useful! ^_^
